Description
Blue Reflections
Sometimes I am blue while working and reflecting back to better days on the lake.
This is a restored cyanotype from the early 1900's. Cyanotypes were made with the same chemicals as blue prints, thus the name. They were popular with novice photographers because the process did not require a dark room, or specialized equipment. Most photographs from this era are amateurish at best and completely useless at worst. Kodak had just come out with a camera that was designed for anyone to operate, and for the first time in history, the world was trying its hand at photography.
There was no such thing as instant gratification when it came to photography in those days, and the learning curve was much steeper. Most cyanotypes I run across are of little interest to me due to those factors, but this one struck a chord with me. There is nothing amateurish about this shot. Weather it was a practiced hand or pure luck, I will never know, but I have respect for the original photographer all the same.
If you look closely, you will note that it is upside down. That is entirely intentional on my part. I hope you enjoy.
It would be great for a cabin, study, or den; but would also go well in an office... where you are sometimes blue, dreaming of past and future excursions on the lake.
