This is my best capture of the moon to date.
I didn't want to risk the Army or sand destroying my camera gear... but I also did not want to head to the desert empty handed... So what was a thrifty soldier, who is picky about the care of his gear, to do? I searched high and low for an almost 10 year old oddball studio camera body that the market had long since forgotten about. I also brought along what (until this shot) I considered to be my worst investment in a lens yet...
There are many moon shots on the market. Some of which are much better than mine. But mine is special to me because I have tried hard to get a shot of the moon this good with many thousands of dollars worth of camera gear... Many many failures and just ho hum results. Much of the trouble does have to do with gear. It takes special equipment to get nice up close captures of the moon, and while I have a nice assortment of high quality large magnification lenses... none of them seem to cut it...
My name is Jayson Tuntland. I am a photographic artist, U.S. Army veteran, and native resident of La Moille, IL. My visual artwork is comprised of both my own photography and antique photograph restoration. Much of my personal photographic work seeks to capture and share the beauty of the natural world. My photographic restorations generally fall into one of two categories. The first being historical preservation. The second being pieces I have sought out and chosen to bring back to life because they speak to me in ways that are hard to articulate, but readily understood by the hearts they are meant to touch. Thank you for taking the time to view my work. Should you have any questions or need assistance of any kind, please feel free...
